Very large sand area beach with smaller point/bay waves great for beginner surfers and kids. A long walk from the car/road to the water. Great walk around the hill for views back to GC skyline. Excellent cover in a S or SE wind. Coolongatta beach and Greenmount beach are immediately adjacent and are really the one larger beach. Close to the airport, so their is aircraft noise.

Burleigh North

Less popular, but probably nicer beach than Burleigh for everything except surfing (as there isnt the point break). Popular with fitness people and beach parties for all (kids, 25ths, etc) that often setup on the table/bbq area to the south side of the hill right next to the beach. One of the few beaches that has protection from a Northerly wind right next to the hill on the Northern end. Excellent kids park and facilities. Parking can be a challenge at times.

This is a beautiful part of the GC coastline. Just north of Surfers Paradise, it is a small stretch of sand between the river/canal system to the west and the ocean to the east. Amazing views to the south. It is less busy than Surfers and a lovely spot to swim if the weather is good. It is an exposed ocean beach.

Many options

Spit North

The Spit North is the section of beach all the way from the Sofitel to the bar (where the broadwater opens to the open ocean). An exposed ocean beach mostly without facilities until you reach the northern part where the spit opens to a brilliant new grassed park area. There's an excellent kiosk and restaurant here and several large open parks. Plenty of parking, toilets and BBQs. On the ocean side, the beach is popular to the north side of the sand drain outlet ( a large pipe structure permanently replenishing sand). Here there can be good waves for learning to surf and swimming in a northly swell as waves move around the spit lighthouse rock wall. On the eastern side is the broadwater before you hit the broadwater park known as "bums bay" or marine stadium - boats are often moored and there is a calm "lake" style of water with some flat sand here https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ax7DoiaRvxtXD1Zb7 good for a volleyball net setup. Its a good spot to setup if the wind is easterly. On the far eastern side of broadwater parklands grassed areas, parking and facilities provide a great view of passing boats, but its probably best not to swim here due to strong currents and waves from boats and probable bull sharks. Lookout for dolphins though in both Bums Bay and the Broadwater. Westerly wind protection available on the eastern side of the western arm of Marine Stadium (Bums Bay).

Quiet Creek Side

Tallebudgera Creek

Amazing spot that can get very busy in holidays and weekends. A creek with a strong current on the incoming and outgoing tides. Good swimmers enjoy swimming across to the other side. The shallow sand edges are great for kids, but beware of the turning tide. Some great standing waves in areas on the turning tide. Enjoy illegal jumping off the bridge, carefully avoiding the rocks below. Has to be one of the most beautiful locations in the world. South side has protection from the Southerly wind. Good for tubes, SUPs etc. Use northern side of Creek for N, NE and NW wind protection.

Surfers Paradise

Touristy, exposed ocean beach. Complete with homeless and little protection from the elements. Cleaned daily with grooming machines, but still a bit of rubbish buried in the sand and loads of seagulls. Can be beautiful in the mornings and evenings with nice light. You would really only visit this beach if you are staying in the area or need a photo under the "Surfers Paradise" sign overlooking the beach. Much better options further away. Parking very difficult. Shops everywhere though for when the kids(or parents) get bored.

Main Beach

The beach nearest to "Tedder Ave" with its old school bakery and up market restuarants. A bit of an older vibe, but still a great beach and out of the main tourist drag. An exposed ocean beach with great views to the South. The park run is popular here on Sat mornings. The two surf club buildings "The Pavillion" and the Southport Surf Life Saving Club create a good community atomosphere with locals. An exposed ocean beach that can be popular with surfers, wind surfers and para sailers depending on conditions. Excellent playgrounds for kids and BBQ facilities. A good option if you are this way and the weather is ok.

Learn to surf

Currumbin Alley

Very popular surf break for experienced and newbies alike. Has some nice shallower areas with small waves, plus bigger waves as you go further out. Can be very crowded and aggressive if you annoy a local surfer. Also one of the most beautiful spots in the world. The way the creek meets the sea here is special. Shallow areas great for kids to wade and explore, Currumbin rock great to explore. Amazing views to the North. Sheltered a little from a Southerly/SE wind. Can be tough to find a park. Shops are a bit of a walk, but there's often a van for coffee and ice creams. Good spot to learn to surf using the smaller waves off the point break around the rock. Watch for the tide outflow as it can drag the little ones out. Have to cross the road for toilets...
