Spit North
The Spit North is the section of beach all the way from the Sofitel to the bar (where the broadwater opens to the open ocean). An exposed ocean beach mostly without facilities until you reach the northern part where the spit opens to a brilliant new grassed park area. There's an excellent kiosk and restaurant here and several large open parks. Plenty of parking, toilets and BBQs. On the ocean side, the beach is popular to the north side of the sand drain outlet ( a large pipe structure permanently replenishing sand). Here there can be good waves for learning to surf and swimming in a northly swell as waves move around the spit lighthouse rock wall. On the eastern side is the broadwater before you hit the broadwater park known as "bums bay" or marine stadium - boats are often moored and there is a calm "lake" style of water with some flat sand here https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ax7DoiaRvxtXD1Zb7 good for a volleyball net setup. Its a good spot to setup if the wind is easterly. On the far eastern side of broadwater parklands grassed areas, parking and facilities provide a great view of passing boats, but its probably best not to swim here due to strong currents and waves from boats and probable bull sharks. Lookout for dolphins though in both Bums Bay and the Broadwater. Westerly wind protection available on the eastern side of the western arm of Marine Stadium (Bums Bay).
